Which massage and pressure is right for me?

You can find more info on the treatment styles here:

The massage will be tailored to you and what you want, we can discuss this at the consultation to ensure you are comfortable, happy with the work and will get the most from the treatment.

I find the most profound relaxation comes from full body work.  There are areas such as forearms and hands that are usually overlooked and often really in need of a massage but this doesn't become apparent until they receive one.  So I would recommend a full body treatment, even if just to identify areas you'd like future work.

The pressure is something that is specific to you, you may prefer lighter or heavier pressure.  If you know, you can let me know in the consultation and if you don't, I will start light, build to work somewhere in the middle and try deeper to see what you think.  I will always check the pressure with you and don't be shy to say because I want you to get the best from the session.  Relaxation can come from any pressure and there is no right or wrong.  But please be aware, very deep pressure can cause damage to tissue, initiate inflammation and bruising, which we generally aim to avoid.  If you request deep work, please be aware it may take a couple of days for tissue recovery.

Do you do a consultation ahead of treatment?

If I'm coming to you for the first time, a full consultation will be done at the start of the session.  This lets me learn a little bit about you and what you are hoping to get from the treatment.  It takes approximately 15 minutes so please be aware that the first session will take a little longer than the massage time booked.

When you book for the first time, I will also email you a medical questionnaire, and GDPR consent form for you to complete ahead of the treatment.

Future treatments will have a shorter review at the start of the session to check how you are getting on and if anything has changed.

What happens when you arrive?

When I arrive I will check that there have been no changes to the Covid information you supplied and then set up the massage table.  It takes me approx 10 minutes to set up and the same to pack away.  The initial consultation is to find out a bit about you and what you are looking for from the treatment and takes about 15 minutes.  If appropriate, I will perform a postural assessment and discuss with you the areas of focus.  I will leave the room while you remove necessary clothing and get on the table, under the drape.  When you are ready, the massage can begin.

What should I wear?

Please wear lose comfy clothes that you do not mind getting oil on should there be any excess oil left on your skin after the massage.  The oils I use shouldn't stain your clothes but better to be cautious.

A postural assessment is performed in shorts and a vest top, or underwear - however you are comfortable.  This is so that I can see the muscle tissue, bony prominences and the lines of your body.

Do I need to have anything ready?

I require space to set up my massage table and to be able to move freely around it.

If you have some relaxing music you would like to play, please have that ready.

I bring all that is needed for the massage but ask that if you tend to get cold and the room is cold, please have on hand an additional blanket or towel that can be laid over the top of the drape if necessary.

What oils do you use?

I use Songbird Liquiwax, almond oil or grapeseed oil depending on the type of massage, your needs and skin type.  If you prefer I can use a moisturiser rather than an oil.

Will I have to remove my clothes?

I will let you know the level of undress required, for a full body treatment this is likely to be undress to pants.  You will be fully covered by a drape and only the area being worked on is uncovered.  If only the upper body or lower body is being treated you can remove just the items required to treat the area, however you are most comfortable.  For leg mobility work you are welcome to wear shorts or lose fit trousers.

If you are not comfortable removing clothing, massage can be performed through clothes using compression techniques but please do let me know ahead of the treatment if this is the case.

Please note that all removeable jewellery should be removed.

Is massage painful?

Massage can be relaxing or invigorating depending on the style but shouldn't be painful.  Pain increases blood pressure and the muscles stop letting the therapist in which will reduce treatment effectiveness.  We try to starve the body of pain to prevent it from adapting to it, becoming sensitised and lowering the pain threshold.  Muscle knots and trigger points can be removed with NMT with pressure that induces a nice discomfort but not pain.  There can be some soreness the following day which should be gone within 48hrs.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel and do not wish to rearrange the treatment, I will refund the full amount to you.  If you wish to postpone the treatment, I will retain your payment for the next booking.

I would appreciate as much notice as possible for cancellations but if you have Covid symptoms, I would prefer you to cancel last minute than press ahead.  No charge is made for cancelled appointments.

Please note that gift vouchers and  block booking offers are non-refundable once you have had at least one treatment.  Every effort will be made to accommodate date changes.

Do you do gift vouchers?

Yes, a massage is a lovely gift.  I can e-mail you a gift voucher for a massage for your friend or family member.  Please email me and include the duration of massage required, their name, your name, and a short message if you'd like one.  I will not include the value on the gift voucher, just the duration of the massage.  Gift vouchers are valid for 6 months from date of issue and are non-refundable.  Please do ensure that they are able to receive massage at their home before booking.

Are you qualified?

I am qualified to practice massage and am a member of the FHT.  I have the following relevant qualifications:

  • Level 5 Remedial and Sports Massage, BCMB

  • Level 3 Body Massage, Bridgwater College

  • First Aid at Work

  • Control of Cross-Contamination in a Post Covid World, Jennifer Young School

What precautions are being taken for Covid?

  1. I ask that the medical and GDPR forms are completed ahead of the first treatment in order to reduce discussion time at the treatment session.

  2. I take my temperature on the morning of each treatment day and will contact you to postpone treatment should my temperature be elevated.

  3. I do not charge a cancellation fee so clients can cancel without worry if they are at all unwell.

  4. My massage table bag has been treated with Panaz Shield Plus Protect which prevents viral and bacterial particles adhering to it.

  5. I use non-bleach based antibacterial cleaning spray to clean the couch and bolsters after each treatment.  The spray kills coronaviruses and has no odour.

  6. My equipment - oils, towels, drapes and cleaning products are brought in in a box that is sanitised between clients.

  7. All oils are pump-top for additional hygiene and are sanitised between clients.

  8. As always - all couch covers and drapes are fresh for each client.

  9. I can wear a mask for the treatment if you prefer

  10. My clothes will be clean on for our treatment and I change my clothes between clients to reduce any cross-infection risk.  If you prefer, on request, I can wear an apron.  My aprons are rustley but they are biodegradable. :)

  11. I will hand sanitise before entering your home and before leaving.  Before the treatment I will wash my hands if there is an easy access sink, if not I will use hand sanitiser.  If you prefer, on request, I can wear gloves for the treatment.  Most people can not tell the difference between a treatment with or without gloves.

  12. I take all waste away with me and it is disposed of in line with Government guidelines.

  13. I am level 2 Cleaner qualified and have completed the Jennifer School course - Control of Cross Infection in a Post-Covid World.

Is there anything I need to do for Covid safety?

  • If you feel at all unwell ahead of our appointment, please let me know and we can reschedule for when you are feeling better.  I would much prefer you cancel at the last minute than potentially put my other clients at risk.

  • I ask that we have sole use of the room being used for massage for the duration of the treatment, including set up and pack away.  If anyone else is in the property if they could be made aware of this.

  • I ask that you air the room ahead of the appointment and again after I leave.

  • I ask that you leave me in the room to set up and to pack away which helps to limit the time we are in contact with each other.

  • Please wash your hands when I arrive and again after the treatment.
